Everything is going well here in the southern route. We left the Amazon about 10 days ago, after climbing from 200 m to 4725 m of the Pirihuayani Pass, from a very nice jungle to the glaciers of the Nevado Ausangate. It has been very rainy, so the route was very muddy, there were several landslides and consequently also many road blockings. We were delayed quite a bit, stuck in the middle of nowhere, but it was a very interesting and authentic nowhere.

We were selected for Going South in December 2008, but in that moment we were not sure when we could start the trip. The people of deepeei understood that we could not start until late summer, probably September. Asa worked as a veterinary surgeon for the Swedish State, and I was also in Sweden trying to finish a PhD thesis that I started back in 2005.

Our pousada (guesthouse) is run by a Swiss (Felix) and Brazilian (Thais). As we were their only guests we had our private hotel. It is low season here in Brazil, as it is there winter time. December is their high season. Although the photo may suggest we were on holiday, don't get misleaded. We arranged a meeting at 7 am to go and film Hugo at his atelier and a place where he stocks his precious roots and wood. That meant waking up at 5.30 to have breakfast and prepare all our equipment.

After a 48 hour stay at home, just enough time to wash our dirty clothes and meet our family we were back on the road. Our destination São Paulo, the biggest city of Brasil. With more then 17 million inhabitants. At the airport we were welcomed by our 'despanchante' (broker) to help us with the customs. The customs were not interested in seeing any materials or papers, so that was good. We thought it would take us hours and a lot of talks, but we just walked out the airport.

All along the cyclists route Southward there are in total 26 projects that will be covered by the deepeei film crew. Although the cyclists film each other, their video diaries, the beautiful scenery and people they meet along the way, they also have some heavy cycling to do!

Hello all,
Here is a small note from deepeei film productions. We have been asked a couple of times why Anna and Fin do not write about each other in their weblog. The answer is fairly easy. Anna and Fin have decided to bike separately. After only a few days into this expedition the have split up. It showed that both Anna & Fin had many different opinions and styles.
