Thanksgiving in Tucson, Arizona

Alex and I had been dreaming of Tucson for many weeks. There waited the warm hospitality of our fantastic friends Ron and Barb, whom we had stayed with Alaska. Known locally as 'Snow Birds' Ron and Barb like many other Alaskans, flee the cold dark days of Alaska in the winter and head for their holiday home in the desert. It took them 5/6 hours in a plane and Alex and I, 4 months on a bike.

We enjoyed our first ever American Thanksgiving meal - Barb and friends Becca and Bill cooked a superb feed of roast turkey and home made everything else...Alex and I were still eating our third helping, when the others slipped away to the arm chairs and sofas. We ate so much great food and drank copious bottles of wine over the week we stayed, it was a thanksgiving that will never be beaten. Especially good as my Mum was also there. I hadn't seen her since leaving in June and it was the perfect place for her to go on vacation, meet our Alaskan friends who have been so kind, and celebrate the journey accomplished so far. A HUGE thank you to Ron, Barb, Bill and Becca for their amazing kindness and support. I only ask one day you visit Scotland so we can reciprocate your generosity. 

 From Tucson, Alex and I head towards New Mexico where we plan to cross the Mexican border at Columbus (USA) / Los Palermos (Mexico), a small border town where we don't anticipate their to be as much trouble as the bigger towns and cities. We have heard the situation (drug cartels fighting and lawlessness) has got much worse recently along the border so we will be keeping a close eye on Foreign Office advice and local knowledge when we get closer.
